Hi I'm using a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R board with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The board has a Realtek based Ethernet adapter and does not recognize the adapter after reboot unless I disable and re-enable the adapter in hardware manager. I've tried multiple drivers from both Realtek and Gigabyte with the same effect and also installed a Netgear GA311 adapter (which I later found out is also Realtek based). Both adapters require the same disable / re-enable procedure to initialize on re-boot.

The adapter worked without problems using Vista. I appreciate any help! IzikR: I have encountered the same issue; however, my Win7 Professional OS is 32bit. I am running an ASUS P5Q SE PLUS with a single RealTek-based NIC, and was on the verge of a psychotic episode with this problem. I would completely lose the NIC.not just disabled in Device Manager. I would re-install, it would work for a while and the the failure would recur. What was particularly annoying was that the same hardware configuration worked flawlessly with the Win7 beta and the Win7 RC.

I finally determined that the out-of-the-box config for my Win7 Pro had my power settings as 'balanced', and the desktop locking and requiring CTRL-ALT-DEL after the video blanked because of the power-saving settings. I configured my power settings to blank the video at 15 minutes and spin down the HD at 30minutes.

I disabled the screensaver in Display Properties, and then went to System, Device Manager, Network Adapter, Properties, Configure, and unchecked the NIC feature that allows the computer to turn off the device to save power. In my case, this did the trick. My video and HD power down as desired, the desktop no longer locks with a CTRL-ALT-DEL required upon recovery, and the NIC has been available and stable, even through subsequent multiple burn-in tests.
